How it works

  1. 1

Upload a voice-over, or paste a script and pick one of our voices to read it.

  2. 2

The editor plans a picture for every line, so the whole video is covered: stills, moving shots and labelled diagrams in one consistent look, with nobody on camera.

  3. 3

It finishes the cut with captions and sound. Try another picture, make one move or swap any shot, then update the video.

What Explainer does

A faceless video is a narrator’s voice over pictures, with nobody on camera: the format behind explainer Shorts, fact channels and history reels. Explainer makes one from what you already have. Upload a voice-over (an audio file, or a video whose sound is used), or paste a script and pick one of our voices to read it.

The editor reads every line with its timing and plans a picture for each one, so the video is covered from the first word to the last. A named thing gets a picture of the thing itself, every number is set large on screen the moment it is said, and a comparison gets a labelled diagram. The big moments are brought to life as moving shots, all in one consistent look that you pick or leave to the editor.

The cut is finished with word captions and a soft whoosh on the cuts, in 9:16 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, 16:9 for YouTube, or 1:1. Then the script works as a storyboard: try another picture, make one move, fix a diagram’s labels or the words on screen, or drop a shot, and update the video.

Explainer questions

What is a faceless video?
A video told by a voice over pictures, with nobody on camera. Creators use the format for explainers, fact and history channels, top-ten lists and Shorts because it needs no filming and no presenter: a script or a recording, and the right picture on every line.
Can I use my own voice-over, or do you read the script?
Either. Upload your own recording, or paste a script and choose one of our voices; you can hear each voice before you pick it. Voices you have cloned on BudgetPixel are in the list too, so a script can be read in your own voice. Each voice speaks one language, so pick one in the language of your script.
What can I upload, and how long can the video be?
An audio file (MP3, M4A, WAV and other common formats, up to 200 MB), or a video, whose sound is used while its picture is replaced. The narration can run from 8 seconds to 3 minutes; a pasted script can be up to 3,000 characters, which is about three minutes read aloud.
Can it make vertical videos for Shorts, Reels and TikTok?
Yes. 9:16 vertical is the default; 16:9 suits YouTube and 1:1 suits feeds. The pictures are made for the frame you choose rather than cropped to fit it.
Does it add captions?
Yes. Word captions are on by default, and a soft whoosh marks the cuts between pictures. Either can be switched off before you start, or on the finished video before you update it.
Can I change a shot?
Yes. The finished video opens as a storyboard, every line beside its picture. Try another picture with a note, make a still move or a moving shot still, edit a diagram’s labels or the words on screen, or drop a picture so the shots around it take its time, then update the video. You can also ask to see the plan before any pictures are made.
How much does a faceless video cost?
It runs on credits, and you see the price before you start: a fee for the video’s length, the voice when we read your script, and a ceiling for the pictures. The ceiling is the most the pictures can cost; picture credits you do not use are never charged.
Who is responsible for the video I publish?
You are. You confirm that you own the voice-over or script, or have the rights to use it, and you decide what gets published. The pictures are generated from your words, so check the finished video for copyright, trademarks, real people’s likeness and facts before you post it.
